Residence and citizenship are not the same thing. A residence permit lets you live in Armenia; citizenship is a separate legal status with its own real requirements.

Holding any residence status does not by itself make you an Armenian citizen β naturalization is a separate application.
General naturalization
- Age 18 or older with legal capacity
- Permanent residence in Armenia for the last 3 years
- Ability to express yourself in Armenian
- Familiarity with the Constitution of Armenia
Exemptions from the 3-year residency and language requirement
Armenia's Law on Citizenship (Article 13) waives the above for:
- Marriage to an Armenian citizen, or having a child who is an Armenian citizen
- A parent who previously held Armenian citizenship or was born in Armenia (if applying within 3 years of turning 18)
- Being of Armenian origin (having Armenian ancestors)
Armenia has permitted dual citizenship since a 2005 constitutional referendum.
