Armenia's Migration and Citizenship Service issues three residence statuses. Here's what each one actually is, sourced directly from the official service.

The three residence statuses
Temporary residence status
Valid up to 1 year, renewable. The most common starting point β typical grounds include Armenian descent, business activity, a close family relationship with an Armenian citizen or resident, or education.
Permanent residence status
Valid 5 years, renewable.
Special residence status
Valid 10 years, renewable, issued as a "special passport" β historically aimed at people of Armenian origin.
Common grounds for applying
- Armenian descent or origin
- Business activity in Armenia
- A close family relationship with an Armenian citizen or resident
- Education (temporary status only)
- Employment (handled through a separate employer-driven process)
Where to apply
Migration and Citizenship Service, under Armenia's Ministry of Internal Affairs β in-person applications at 14 Tairov Street, Yerevan, by appointment.
