Currency

The Armenian Dram (AMD). Approximate exchange rate as of September 2026: ~364 AMD per USD, ~423 AMD per EUR. This moves daily β€” use it for rough budgeting only, not exact conversion.

Where to exchange

Licensed exchange bureaus (look for "Υ“ΥΈΥΥ‘ΥΆΥ‘Υ―ΥΈΦ‚Υ΄" / "Exchange" signs) are everywhere in central Yerevan β€” in banks and shopping centers β€” and are usually commission-free with better rates than hotels or airport counters.

ATMs & cards

ATMs are widely available and accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and Cirrus (Amex sometimes; JCB, UnionPay and Discover generally not). If an ATM offers to "accept conversion" to your home currency, decline it and choose to be charged in AMD β€” the built-in conversion rate is usually worse. Cards are widely accepted in hotels, mid-range-and-up restaurants and supermarkets in Yerevan; smaller cafΓ©s, marshrutkas, and anywhere outside the capital lean cash β€” carry some AMD.

Tipping

Not obligatory, but increasingly common. Around 10% at restaurants is typical β€” check the bill first in case a service charge is already included. Rounding up for taxis, and small tips for guides or hotel staff, are appreciated but not expected.
